We are Launching a Starthistle Eradication Initiative for 2026. Yellow StarThistle continues to spread on Private Properties across the Elk Creek Basin, affecting native plants, wildlife and fire safety. Thanks to donations we can offer limited spraying in the Spring and Fall of 2026! We have limited resources for this so please email with a brief description of the infestation. This offer is restricted to Elk Creek Basin Private Properties.

2026 Yellow Starthistle Eradication Initiative – Elk Creek Basin

Yellow starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis) continues to spread across private properties in the Elk Creek Basin, threatening native plants, wildlife habitat, and increasing wildfire risks due to its dense, dry growth.

Thanks to generous community donations, we are excited to launch a targeted eradication program offering limited spraying during key seasons in 2026:

  • Spring 2026 (rosette/early growth stage)

  • Fall 2026 (re-treatment for seedlings and regrowth)

Important Notes:

  • Services are restricted to private properties within the Elk Creek Basin only.

  • Resources are limited, so priority will be given based on infestation severity, size, and proximity to sensitive areas.

If you have yellow starthistle on your property and would like to request assistance, please email us as soon as possible with:

  • A brief description of the infestation (e.g., approximate size of affected area, density, location on your property)

  • Your contact information

  • Any photos (optional but very helpful)

We will review requests and respond to confirm eligibility and next steps.

Together, we can protect our local ecosystem, improve forage for wildlife, reduce fire hazards, and restore native vegetation. Early action is key—don't wait for the infestation to worsen!

Thank you for your partnership in keeping the Elk Creek Basin healthy and resilient.
